This study examines end-user’s knowledge and experiences on both privacy policies and cookies. Websites have been using cookies for several years, however end-users are still uncertain of their meaning. In addition, organizations use privacy policies to communicate their privacy practices to end-users. Nevertheless, these are found to be written in unclear manner from end-user’s perspective. This has led to a situation where end-users rarely read those policies. Banner style presentations of these privacy policies and usage of cookies have become more common. This study also examines how that banner style presentation of privacy policies and cookies affect end-user’s user experience. This study has been conducted by both literature review and empirical study and its purpose has been to discover how banner style notification of cookie usage and privacy policies effects to end-user’s user experience. According to this study, end-users don’t fully understand privacy policies, but they understand meaning and purpose of cookies. Also, end-users feel that banner style notifications of cookie usage or privacy policies are annoying, and end-users are unconcerned by them. However, end-users think that those banners are acceptable way to present information about cookie usage because they inform end-users. Also, interest to banner style notification of cookie usage or privacy policies are connected to experience from banners. In addition, interest to banner style notification of cookie usage or privacy policies are connected to understanding privacy policies and cookies.
