Tietohallinnon eroavaisuudet PK-yritysten ja suurten yritysten välillä

The study attempts to identify the differences of IT Governance practices be-tween SMEs and bigger enterprises. The study separates the key characteristics that are to be considered while trying to study or enhance the IT Governance of SMEs. This study also observed the information system acquisition process and the differences between decision-making of these acquisitions between SMEs and larger enterprises. The study observed that the more flexible and informal way of conducting business by SMEs creates a different approach to IT Govern-ance and a more rapid decision-making process. The support and enthusiasm of top management towards IT is an important aspect in successful implemen-tation of IT Governance. A more surprising finding was that SMEs ignore the financial constraints as being a valid obstacle in information systems acquisi-tion, but other resources, such as knowledge and work resources are problem-atic especially for small enterprises. The most effective users of IT had actively expanded their knowledge during a longer time period. Enterprise systems were required to fit to the existing systems and processes and had to be modi-fiable to the needs of all enterprises. Mid-sized enterprises were most likely to embrace the new possibilities of running their business that enterprise systems provides, while larger enterprises expressed concerns about the changes they might impose.
